Who We Are

We’ve been in the Texas Longhorn business for over 60 years, starting with Stan and Lorna Searle well back in the mid 1960’s. Silverado (then Searle Ranch) began to raise and promote the Texas Longhorn. Stan was an entrepreneur, as well as a rancher from his childhood. Purchasing small cable TV companies during the growth age of that business, Stan became financially able to own and raise some unique cattle. His business expanded into publishing some cable publications which eventually turned into livestock publications like Hoof and Horn magazine (rodeo) and the Texas Longhorn Journal which was for many years the breed publication for the Longhorn breed. Today Silverado Ranch is the partnership of Stan & Susan Searle and Gary & Marlene Lake. Gary has also spent the last 45 years involved with the Texas Longhorn breed. Although we don’t make our living raising and selling Longhorns as some do, we have a history of genetic planning that has developed a herd that has what we call Predictable Genetics. Stacked pedigrees that cause individual animals to reproduce like themselves or better with the best of the best traits of the Texas Longhorn. Along with raising and selling everything from high end pairs to ranch raised Longhorn Lean Beef, we use our herd to promote the Amazing Longhorn by doing downtown trail drives through major cities, special appearances with ‘town broke’ cattle and any venue that will allow us to tout the tremendous characteristics of the Longhorn.
