Gordon Howie makes bid for the
Governorship of South Dakota!
I first met Gordon at the 2009 Legacy Sale in Ft Worth, and immediately liked him. As all auctioneers, he has a pleasant, friendly, even contagious manner that makes him 'fit' with cattlemen and business men alike. But more than that, he has a 'down to earth' approach to life that he doesn't apologize for. Many times as conservatives, we are shy about our values and beliefs. We think that just walking the walk will be enough to show the masses our character, so we become "closet conservatives", living a lifestyle that much of the world never hears about.
As important as that is in our personal lives, if we aspire to have any major affect on todays society we need to be bold in our beliefs! Gordon has a very congenial way of showing character with courage. It wasn't long in the conversation before I realized that he believed much like I did about cattle, politics and even religion. (I told you I liked this guy!) Spending time with him during our Rocky Mountain Select Sale in August 2009 confirmed my belief that this was a man that would make a good long term friend.
This Last month I received word that he would be throwing his hat in the ring for Governor of South Dakota. My only disappointment is that I live in Colorado and won't get the chance to vote for him. Gordon has my support as the type of individual that can truly be "of the people, by the people and for the people"
Below is information on Gordon and a way to contact him. All politicians could use financial support, but I'm sure just the encouragement of breeders like yourselves and letting your South Dakota friends know, would be appreciated also!

Gordon has a passion for responsible, limited government. In April of 2008 he agreed to organize a rally in Rapid City to let Congress know that South Dakota does not want government run health care. He led that effort into what is now a “tea party” group with over 1,000 members. The focus has been to promote limited government by getting people actively involved. Gordon and this group have been successful in encouraging and recruiting people to run for school board, city council, and other positions to bring common sense back to our government at every level.
Gordon has 40 years of business experience. He knows the challenge of meeting payroll and of understanding and complying with the multitude of government regulations. He and his wife Connie own and operate a working ranch near Rapid City where they raise commercial cattle, buffalo and registered Texas Longhorns. Gordon has also been active in the real estate business during those years.
2009 begins the sixth year of his service in the State Legislature, having served 4 years in the House of Representatives, and 2 years in the Senate. In the House Gordon served on the Ag and Natural Resources and Local Government committees. While in the Senate, he has served as Vice-Chair of Ag and Natural Resources committee. He also serves on the taxation and transportation committees in the Senate.
Gordon and Connie enjoy time with family and look forward to their 17th grandchild (another girl) in March. Their six children all live in the Rapid City area. Connie grew up in Buffalo Gap, where her father, Jim Nolan owned the local grain elevator. She is a teacher who loves her personal connection with students, who often spend time with her at the ranch.
Gordon is a published author, songwriter and motivational speaker. He is an avid outdoorsman and hunter who believes in “leaving it better than we found it”. That is the philosophy Gordon brings to State government, as a new voice to represent the people of South Dakota.
